Trinity Mandala’s Make Along – It\’s all in a Nutshell

My new design is a set of three mandala’s called Trinity Mandala’s. In this post you find all the information you need to make your own mandala’s. We will make these three mandala’s as part of a short crochet along in April 2019. I hope you will love making these mandala’s, I know I enjoyed designing them.

Origin of Trinity Mandala’s

Have you ever been challenged to do something, and then were amazed at what you did? This is what happened to me with these mandalas. Dedri from Look at what I made set me a challenge, she said take 10 random colors and design a mandala. She also said that if I work more than 4 rounds without having to chart it out or frog, that I should rip those rounds back and start again. She also told me to change colors every round, or two rounds max, to allow for maximum freedom in color placement. Quite a challenge, and the result is the 3 mandala’s you find in this pattern. Dedri gave me a lot of feedback during the design process, and I am most grateful to her for her help.

You will need 10 colors of Scheepjes Catona (50g/125m) yarn and 3 mandala rings to make the Trinity Mandala’s. Here are the colors I used:

You will also need 3 rings to finish the mandala’s. You will need rings with diameter 50cm (19″ or 20″), 30cm (12″) and 15cm (6″). We make the mandala’s using a 3mm crochet hook.

Scheepjes Catona is available from many Scheepjes retailers, including Wool Warehouse (UK/Int), Deramores (UK), Black Sheep Wools (UK), Knotty House (CA/US), and Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU).

Stores may have kits available in the colors I selected, such as Wool Warehouse (UK) and Caro’s Atelier (NL/EU), but you are also more than welcome to choose your own colors. If you purchase your yarn after clicking on one of the links in on my blog you support my work, because I receive a small commission from the store based on your purchase.

Not all stores carry the rings, but every store that carries Scheepjes yarns, can order the rings for you. Just ask your favorite store to stock them for you. Amazon also stocks a variety of dream catcher rings. Alternatively, you are welcome to make these mandala’s without the ring.

The pattern for Trinity Mandala’s is divided into 3 parts; in part 1 you make the small mandala, in part 2 you grow the small mandala to become the medium mandala, and in part 3 you grow the medium mandala to become the large mandala.

The free, written patterns are available in English US Terms, English UK Terms, Dutch, and Swedish. The free patterns will be available as separate pdf files, and will be released on the following dates:

Video tutorials

There will be free video tutorials available to help you every step of the way. I will release these videos on my YouTube channel when I release the free patterns. The video’s are only available in English US Terms. I hope the videos make it possible for everyone to make these mandala’s.

We will make these 3 mandala’s during a short 3-week make along. The project will be hosted by Scheepjes in their English and Dutch Facebook groups. You can join these groups if you need any help, or want to share your work. I will be in the groups as much as possible to help you with any questions you might have, and to admire your beautiful mandala’s.
