Cheng Wing Kwong Performs Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan

Cheng Wing Kwong (1903–1967) performs the traditional Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan in this video. Cheng was an inside disciple of the famous Wu Chien Chuan (1870 – 1942).

Cheng Wing Kwong started learning the Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan as a young man at the Hong Kong Ching Wu Martial Arts Club. His teacher was Chiu Sau Chien, who was a nephew of Wu Chien Chuan. In 1937, Wu Chien Chuan moved to Hong Kong to teach his style of Tai Chi. It was shortly after this that Cheng began training with Wu, and was accepted as an indoor disciple.

Cheng Wing Kwong trained hard and became very proficient in the Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan. Over time, he started teaching, and became the Vice President of Wu Chien Chuan Tai Chi Academy in Hong Kong. Along with Wu Gong Yi, the son of Wu Chien Chuan, Cheng travelled to Guangzhou, Singapore, and Malaysia where they started schools teaching the Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan.

Before learning the Wu style of Tai Chi, Cheng had learned Hsing I Chuan and Ba Gua Chuan from either Sun Lu Tang or one of his students. Over time, Cheng included elements of what he learned from the Sun style into his own Tai Chi and his teaching. Because of this, the lineage of Tai Chi from him is referred to as the Cheng Wing Kwong Wu Style. One of his well known students was Cheng Ting Hung, who taught in Hong Kong.

Below is the book on Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan authored by Wu Yinghua, who is the daughter of Wu Chien Chuan. This is a must have book for the Wu Tai Chi enthusiast as a link to the past teachings of the old masters! Click on the image below to see more.
