Sometimes, it takes a certain level of crazy to survive crazy.

Emily Javier had always feared that her boyfriend of two years, Alex Lovell, was cheating on her. Stealing a glance at his phone, she feared the worst when she discovered that he had Tinder downloaded on it.

Javier also  had found other signs–a woman’s red hair in the bathroom, scratch marks on his back–that she assumed were erotic.

She felt especially neglected because of her beau’s frequent binge gaming sessions. Lovell is an enthusiastic player of “PlayerUnknown’s Battleground,” going by the gamer name “Biggie.” Lovell claims he “wasn’t a sweaty nerd, more of an Ethlete.”

Believing she would never get the truth out of him verbally, Javier went to her local mall and purchased a samurai sword. In a frank public statement she said, “I thought, I was gonna stab him while he was sleeping.”

She wasn’t counting on Biggie putting up a fight. Particularly such an effective one.

Lovell woke up to Javier attempting to stab and hack him to death. She had taped the sword to their bed before he went to sleep for easy access and hidden his phone so he couldn’t call for help using his superior reflexes.

In Lovell’s own words: “I was able to wing chun my way to survival.” Between watching martial arts movies and some training of his own,  he had mastered enough self-defense to be able to grab his girlfriend before she could cause further damage.

“I saw the look in her eyes, and it scared the living poop out of me,” he said.

Physically restraining his jealous lover, Lovell convinced her to abandon her murder plot and call the police. “I told her I loved her, and she was killing me,” he said. “She needed to call the police, or I was going to die.”

She heeded his instructions. He lost consciousness from blood loss shortly after, but the bewildered operator was able to send police over.

Javier clearly meant to end Biggie’s gaming career. Multiple fingers on his hand had to be surgically reattached. He also suffered lacerations on his feet and legs. Lovell referred to his injuries as “gnarly.”

Despite narrowly missing an attempt on his life, Lovell seems more thrilled than disturbed, talking about the experience like a mad cool gaming achievement. He speaks of his estranged girlfriend like a difficult boss at the end of a level.

I was just so proud for beating this samurai wannabe crazy lady with hate in her heart…. The feeling I had when I won the fight with my bare hands is just absolutely the best feeling. I’ve played all the sports, won big games, landed some decent tricks on my snowboard. This was better!

To their credit, the gaming community totally has Biggie’s back. A Gofundme created by Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds’ players has already raised over $8,000 for Lowell’s medical expenses.
