The Westfield Memorial Library will present two health-related programs in mid-September: Plant-based Superfoods to Rev up your Diet on Monday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m., and a Tai Chi demonstration on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. The library is located at 550 East Broad St.
Vegetarian lifestyle coach Sue Rose will present the Super-foods workshop.
A vegetarian diet that is high in plant-based whole foods has many health benefits, such as providing consumers with more energy and increased stamina.
Rose will cover basic nutrition needs and how to add more nutrient dense foods to the daily menu. Handouts will include recipes. There will be a short meditation sitting at the end.
Due to the hands-on nature of the Tai Chi demonstration and class, registration will be limited to Westfield Resident cardholders only. Beginning Thursday, September 13, MURAL patrons may register, space permitting.
Tai Chi, the Chinese tradition of martial arts movements, has become a gentle way to exercise and reduce stress. The program will be presented by Certified Tai Chi instructor Gang Huang, who will teach the ways of Tai Chi, and then show the class its various movements.
Huang participated in the International Chinese Martial Arts Competition in Washington D.C. and the U.S. International Kuo Shu Championship in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016. He has won numerous medals, including nine Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze.
In the past few years, in addition to teaching regular classes at his Bridgewater Seeking Tai Chi Studio, he has been invited to teach Tai Chi at the Huaxia Chinese School at Montgomery and the West Windsor and Morristown Libraries. He pays special attention to fundamentals and combines both theory and practice in every class. Huang is passionate about Tai Chi and focuses on promoting its growth in the United States.
Attendees must sign up for the programs, which are free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to the 44 libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. Check the library’s website to see if your library participates.)
